Photo New Mexico merges with IMAGE New Mexico

In an effort to consolidate forces, Photo New Mexico, long a tradition at Matrix Fine Art, will be merging into IMAGE New Mexico, a product of Rio Grande Workshops founders, Tim Anderson and Pat Berrett.

With a still-faltering economy slowing sales in the arts, Matrix owner, Regina Held welcomes the transition as it will allow to spend more time with New Grounds Printworks, and in working more closely with her current gallery artists.

Pat and Tim welcome the transition as well, because it will give them a home for their annual New Mexico photography contest. Entering into its third year, the contest has been at the Inn at Rio Rancho for the past two summers. While each exhibit enjoyed high traffic, and a few sales, it is felt by both that the switch to Matrix and Albuquerque should bring renewed interest in fine art photography, IMAGE New Mexico 2012.

IMAGE New Mexico 2012 moves to Matrix Fine Art Gallery

IMAGE New Mexico 2011 (INM) photography contest, which last year exhibited at Inn at Rio Rancho will move to Matrix Fine Arts Gallery, in Albuquerque. Matrix director, Regina Held, and IMAGE New Mexico co-founders Pat Berrett and Tim Anderson have agreed to merge their efforts. Matrix formerly produced New Mexico Showcase, a photography show it exhibited for a few years.during the summer. Recently, Held realized that other aspects of her business, which also includes New Grounds Print Workshops were demanding more time.

Berrett and Anderson are happy to be able to work with Matrix in producing one of the premier photography exhibits in New Mexico. Both IMAGE New Mexico and New Mexico Showcase accepted only work from photographers who live in New Mexico, and INM will continue with that tradition.

You can go to the “Calls-for-Entry” tab for entry information for IMAGE New Mexico 2012.

IMAGE New Mexico 2011 photography show set

I am very pleased to announce that the judges have sharpened their pencils and whittled down the entrants in the IMAGE New Mexico 2011 photography show and sale. There will be 45 images, culled from 214, and 30 photographers will be have their work represented in the Incognito Gallery show at the Inn at Rio Rancho, July 1-31, 2011, with the artist’s reception set for July 9, 2-5 pm.

The jurors, Patrick Nagatani, Molly Geissman, Patrick Carr, and Valerie Hollingsworth, all agreed that the selection of the finalists was very challenging, and even when it came down to them choosing their individual Juror’s Choice, that was even more difficult.

There was one image, however, that was the clear “Best of Show,” with the most points garnered between the jurors. But you won’t be able to find out which image it is, or who the masterful photographer is until the reception. Black and white, color, sepia, toned, full-out digital, and traditional silver-gelatim images are all represented in the gallery show.

The drum roll, please… and the winners are: Robert Alexander, Matt Beckman, Lance Bollinger, Cody Brothers, Susan Chandler, Robert Medina Cook, Amy Ditto, Elias Marshall, Mellany Herrera, Steve Immel, Kenneth Ingham, Helen Johnson, David Kelton, Linda Laitner, Richard Leighton, Marie Maher, Jim McDonough, Lia Moldovan, John Palmer, Amy Parish, Uwe Schroeter, John Schultheis, Paula Scott, Dan Shaffer, Mark Sharfman, John Simmons, Dee Smart, Rebecca Taylor, Gordon Vanus, Clifford Wood.

These photographers are all to be commended for their efforts in regards to the whole process of entering a call for entry. Both Pat Berrett and I, along with the jurors wish them all good luck when the awards are announced at the reception.

If you have any quesations at all about the show, please email Tim.
